CANBERRA, Australia: In Australia’s Northern Territory (NT), an elderly man was hospitalized after being attacked by a crocodile.

The 67-year-old was attacked by a two meters long saltwater crocodile on Monday while swimming at Wangi Falls, a prominent location in the Litchfield National Park south of Darwin.

Taneka Starr, an off-duty police officer, and a nurse, administered first aid to him there before he was taken to the close-by Batchelor medical center to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and back. Later, he was sent to the Royal Darwin Hospital.

The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security’s Dean McAdam, the director of Northern Australian Parks, announced that Wangi Falls would be closed until security for the general public could be assured. The NT has reported four crocodile attacks in 2023, none of which have been fatal. —Xinhua/APP
