MOSCOW: North Korean Minister for Foreign Affairs Choe Son Hui has left for Russian to take part in the fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum and the BRICS Women’s Forum in Saint Petersburg, according to Russia’s embassy in North Korea.

The statement said that Russian envoy saw off North Korean FM Choe Son Hui at the Pyongyang airport. According to the embassy, the minister will participate in the meeting, which will take place from September 18 to 20.

Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the Federation Council, Russia’s upper house of parliament, stated in June that delegations from about a hundred nations were expected at the forum. Matviyenko said in June that they would strive to ensure a record foreign representation in the history of the forum.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has also attended last meetings of the forum, but the Kremlin is yet to announce his participation in this year’s meeting.

Warming relations between the countries reached a new high this year when Russian President Putin inked a deal with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that included a mutual defense promise during a visit to North Korea.

The US and its allies have accused North Korea of helping Moscow by supplying arms for its war in Ukraine in return for financial and other military help. Pyongyang and Moscow have denied the claims.
