PYONG YANG, North Korea: North Korea’s propaganda master, Kim Ki Nam, has passed away at the age of 94, according to state media reports on Wednesday.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) announced that Kim Ki Nam, former secretary of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers’ Party (WPK), succumbed to old age and multiple organ failure after receiving treatment in the hospital since April 2022.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un paid tribute to Kim Ki Nam at the funeral hall and will lead the state funeral committee for his burial.
Kim Ki Nam was instrumental in overseeing propaganda operations in the totalitarian regime, including fostering personality cults around its leaders.
His relationship with Kim Jong Un dates back to 2009, and he served as a political mentor to the current leader. Kim Ki Nam’s contributions to the one-party system and his role in idolizing the supreme leaders earned him high regard within the regime.
Despite his involvement in inter-Korean relations, Kim Ki Nam faced international sanctions imposed by the United States and South Korea in 2016.
