PYONGYANG: North Korean leader Kim Jong has dismissed the military’s top general and called for preparation of war, according to state media reports on Thursday.

He also asked for boosting weapons production and conducting more drills during a meeting of the Central Military Commission.

The Korean Central News Agency reported the development comes just days after Kim visited several major arms factories.

Kim during the meeting dismissed the chief of the general staff Pak Su Il and replaced him with Vice Marshal Ri Yong Gil.

Kim called for all the ammunition factories to speed up the production of various weapons and equipment.

He asked for regularly conducting actual war exercises to professionally operate the newly inducted latest weapons and equipment.

The meeting also deliberated preparations for a gigantic parade to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of North Korea on September 9.

Last month, Pyongyang organized a massive army parade to observe the 70th anniversary of the Korean War cease-fire. The event was the largest display of North Korea’s nuclear-capable systems.
