SEOUL: A North Korean official termed the United States and its allies joint military drills as a seriously threat to regional peace and stability in the region of the Korean peninsula.
According to official media of North Korea, the United States and the south Korea are holing “provocative joint military drills” one after another, increasing the military tension in the region. The chief of the Public Information Office of the Ministry of National Defence of Noth Korea said that the US and its allies staged the largest-ever joint military exercises Ulji Freedom Shield from August 19 to 29 by mobilizing more than 200 fighters of various kinds, the US Army unit coping with chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear attacks and even troops of satellite countries.
The official claimed that the last two months the US and South Korea militaries have desperately staged all sorts of war exercises targeting the North Korea in the ground, sea and air. It said that actions on the Korean peninsula, will only spark off tensions and drive the security environment in the region into an irreversibly disastrous situation. He claimed that the US and the Soutj Korea military drills will expose the Korean peninsula to constant instability.
Earlier, western media reported that US and South Korean forces conducted a large-scale exercise aimed at strengthening their combined defense capabilities against North Korea, which again alleged the allies of practicing an invasion.
Washington and Seoul described their joint exercise as defensive in nature and have been extending and upgrading their training in recent years to cope with the North Korea’s evolving threats.
