ISLAMABAD: As a cold wave grips the Korean Peninsula, authorities in North Korea issued a warning regarding extreme weather conditions in the country.
According to the government radio broadcaster, in the northern regions of the country, temperatures have dipped lower than -30C.
As per reports of the state media, high winds are expected to lash coastal areas.
Extreme cold weather also expected in South Korea, Japan
Meanwhile, South Korea has also issued a warning regarding the cold wave.
At the same time, China is also seeing record-low temperatures in its northern region.
Later in the week, it is forecasted that temperatures in Japan will hit a record low for the past decade.
North Korea’s poorest provinces including North Hamgyong, South Hamgyong, and Ryanggang are the one considered to be most vulnerable to climate shocks.
The cold wave alerts on Tuesday coincide with North Korea’s preparations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Korean People’s Army, which falls next week.
