WASHINGTON, USA: American and Canadian warplanes intercepted two Russian and two Chinese bombers in international airspace near Alaska on Wednesday, according to the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).
The Russian TU-95 and Chinese H-6 bombers were detected, tracked, and intercepted in the Alaska Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ), a perimeter for monitoring air traffic to provide additional reaction time for potential threats.
NORAD reported that US and Canadian fighter jets conducted the intercept, ensuring the bombers remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign territory. This type of intercept is relatively common and not perceived as a direct threat.
