ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council (ICC) today unveiled the schedule for the ICC Awards 2022, which will honor the top cricketers who distinguished themselves internationally throughout the calendar year.
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand featured thrilling action, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia featured incredible drama. The year also saw many memorable moments and performances throughout the international game.
ICC Awards 2022
The ICC Awards 2022 include 13 categories, including the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. Players who excelled in specific formats as well as across several formats are recognized by these awards.
Shortlist Announcements
On ICC official channels between December 28 and December 30, shortlists for 9 of the 13 categories will be made public. We’ll have four names on each shortlist.
The shortlists for the ICC Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Year will be announced on December 28. Nominees for the Men’s and Women’s ODI Cricketers of the Year, as well as the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketers of the Year, will be announced on December 29.
The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, and the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year final shortlist will be made public on December 30.
The shortlists for these categories were created by a specialized team of cricket writers and broadcasters, who chose the top players based on statistics and overall accomplishments in international cricket over the calendar year.
Voting
The voting for the ICC Awards 2022 will then start in the first few days of January 2023, and a larger group of international media representatives—the ICC Voting Academy—will submit their choices alongside international cricket fans, who will once again be encouraged to vote for their favorites at ICC-cricket.com.
The winner in each of these nine categories will be decided by adding the results of the ICC Voting Academy picks and the fan vote.
In 2022, the ICC Associate Cricketers of the Year for men and women will also be chosen from the competition. These categories won’t have shortlists, and the ICC Voting Academy will be the only one to decide the winners.
The ICC Spirit of Cricket Award is another honor presented as a part of the ICC Awards. This award recognizes an international cricket play-related action, moment, gesture, or decision made during the year that best exemplifies the game’s spirit. The ICC chooses the winning entry.
The outstanding umpire from the calendar year will be honored with the ICC Umpire of the Year Award. Votes from the Emirates Elite Panel of Match Referees and participating captains from ICC Full Member countries are tallied to determine this award. The ICC Voting Academy will also select five ICC Teams of the Year, recognizing the top XIs from the men’s and women’s international cricket stages, in addition to the individual awards.
Winners of the ICC Awards 2022 will be revealed later in January 2023 after the voting period has ended.
