No Sanctions Relief for Iran under Prisoner Deal: US

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday that the United States would offer no relief in sanctions to Iran under a draft agreement that would free five Americans.

In any event, in any respect, Tehran would not be receiving any relief in sanctions, he replied journalists when asked about the possible release of 6 billion dollars in frozen Iranian funds.

Iran’s funds

Blinken said that tehran’s freezed funds would be transacted to restricted accounts so that amounts can only be put for humanitarian purposes, according to AFP.

He said that the US has been in contact with the families of its 5 citizens freed from prison to house arrest in an potentially first step to their release.

He hoped that this would be the start of the end of their nightmare, and the pain that their relatives have experienced.
