LAHORE: Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam Tuesday said his team is approaching the ICC World Cup in India with high confidence and without feeling pressure as they prepared to compete before the arch-rival nation for the first time.
During a press conference here today, Babar strongly refuted any suggestions of internal discord within the team. He stressed that the players have a strong bond among them, stating, “Everyone gives me respect”.
He said he always tried to maintain unity in the team, assuring, “There is no fight within the team”. He dismissed any notions of pressure related to playing cricket in India, emphasizing, “There is no pressure on us to play cricket in India.” Instead, he said: “We will try to improve our performance by learning from mistakes.”
He pledged, “I will strive to give the best performance for the team against the best team.” He highlighted that based on their recent performances, players would be evaluated. Baber remarked, “The less pressure there is, the better the performance will be.”
Reflecting on past setbacks, Azam admitted, “We couldn’t play in the Asia Cup the way we wanted to. We learn from defeats and focus on doing better”.
He acknowledged that fielding needs to be improved and emphasized that every game is different with identical blunders. Commenting on the absence of Naseem Shah, Babar Azam said, “We will feel his absence in the World Cup.”
