WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has said that there is no place for political violence in the country after Sunday’s second assassination attempt targeting Donald Trump, pledging to make sure the Secret Service has every resource for the safety of former President.

Former President Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination bid Sunday in Florida, the FBI officials said, with the Republican presidential candidate’s campaign and law enforcement reporting the former President was unharmed.

The US Secret Service also confirmed one or more of its agents “opened fire on an attacker” located near the boundary of Trump’s golf course, and that an “AK-47 style rifle” with a scope was also recovered along with a GoPro video camera.

Amid the battle with the Secret Service, the suspect bolted out of the shrubbery he had been hiding in and escaped in a black vehicle. A witness helped police personnel identify the car and authorities tracked it down.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw the media that they have somebody in custody right now that is a suspect.

Bradshaw stated that Donald Trump is safe after gunshots in his vicinity, his campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said. Trump stated in a fundraising message on his official website: “Fear not! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God!”

The scary incident appears to mark the 2nd time in as many months that Donald Trump has been the target of an assassination bid. He was injured in the ear on July 13 as he addressed an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Officials who addressed Sunday’s news conference did not confirm whether an attacker actually fired a weapon in the direction of Trump, but stated that shots were fired by the Secret Service. Rafael Barros, of the Secret Service said that they are not sure right now if the individual was able to take a shot at their agents.  Vice President Kamila Harris also took to social media to say “I am glad he is safe.”
