TEHRAN: Iran has declared a new strategy with its recent retaliatory attack against Israel has signaled a strategic shift from previous tactics of proxy warfare. The assault, launched in retaliation for an attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, Syria, marked a direct and bold move against its longtime adversary.
The operation, which targeted Israel’s territory, was hailed by Iran as a success, despite Israel’s claim of intercepting the majority of the threats with the assistance of the United States and Britain. Iran said that the attack inflicted significant damage on Israel and warned of harsh retaliation to any future assaults by the Israeli regime.
Mohammad Jamshidi, the political deputy to Iran’s president, said that the operation signified the end of strategic patience, indicating a readiness to respond forcefully to any provocations. President Ebrahim Raisi echoed this sentiment, stating that the attack had taught Israel a lesson and opened a new chapter in their conflict.
Iran justified its actions as self-defense following the strike on its consulate in Damascus, which resulted in casualties among the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel. Western governments condemned Iran’s retaliation, citing concerns about regional stability.
Despite Iran’s assertion of restraint, Western nations remain wary of escalating tensions, particularly in light of ongoing conflicts in the region. The attack underscores the heightened volatility in the Middle East and the potential for further escalation between Iran and Israel.
