MOSCOW: The Kremlin stated on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not been in contact with former US President Donald Trump following the Saturday’s assassination attempt on Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed during a press briefing in Moscow that no future communications between Putin and Trump are planned.

“No, he (Trump) has not been contacted, and no contacts are planned,” Peskov said in response to queries regarding any potential interactions between the two leaders.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old assailant, opened fire on Trump during the rally, prompting a swift response from the Secret Service, who neutralized the gunman on-site.

Peskov reiterated Russia’s condemnation of the attack on Trump, emphasizing that the Kremlin opposes any form of violence in politics.

Regarding security measures for Putin in light of recent incidents, including an assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Peskov assured that security protocols for the Russian president have been heightened.

“The security of the head of state is ensured at the proper level, and everything necessary is being done, taking into account the general international escalation of tension,” Peskov assured.

In response to inquiries about Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s recent activities concerning the Ukrainian conflict, Peskov acknowledged that Orban had discussed his general approaches to the conflict during visits to Kyiv and Moscow earlier in July. However, he clarified that the Kremlin does not possess specific details of any proposals Orban may have sent to EU leaders regarding Ukraine.

“During contacts in Moscow, Mr. Orban outlined the main parameters of his vision, but we do not know what is being discussed in internal correspondence within the EU,” Peskov remarked.
