No Casualties as Eight Rockets Fired at Turkish Base in Northern Iraq

ISLAMABAD: According to a security organization in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region,  the Counter-Terrorism Group, unknown attackers fired as many as eight rockets at a Turkish military base that is located in northern Iraq on Wednesday. Of these, they landed inside the facility.

In a brief statement, a Turkish security source stated that the attack did not cause any damage and that there were no casualties in the base.

However, an unnamed Iraqi security source said an Iraqi contractor in the base had suffered injuries.

Zilkan base hosts Turkish troops in Ninevah province

No group made an immediate claim of responsibility for the assault on the Zilkan base. The base is located in northern Iraq’s Ninevah province.

For decades, Turkiye has been carrying out operations against PKK or Kurdistan Workers Party. The PKK has camps in the region. It has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States, Turkiye, and the European Union.

The group launched an insurgency in SE Turkiye in 1984 in which over 40,000 people have so far been killed.
