No Bar on ECP to Hold Polls in October: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Sunday that there was no restriction for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold the next elections in October.

In an interview with a private TV channel, the minister said that the parliament has allowed ECP to conduct general polls as per schedule.

He said that the government had allocated funds for conducting polls in a free and fair manner.

In reply to a query about lifetime disqualification for political leaders, Asif said that disqualifying political leaders for life was a human rights violation.

Khwaja Asif Says Nawaz Sharif to Return Soon

About former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, Asif, said that he would soon return to Pakistan and lead the election campaign. PML-N would continue development and welfare works under the guidance and vision of Nawaz Sharif.

The minister said that Nawaz Sharif had been facing false cases filed against him by a rival party.

Asif hoped that PML-N would win the general polls with full public support.
