KARACHI: At least Nine persons were killed and scores others seriously injured after a huge fire engulfed a multi-storey shopping mall on Rashid Minhas Road here on Saturday morning.
According to fire brigade officials, over 46 people trapped inside the mall on the city’s busy artery have been rescued in the rescue operation. They believe that more people are still inside and efforts were being made to rescue them.
The fire that broke out at around 7am engulfed the 4th, 5th and 6th floor of the shopping mall but the cause of fire was still not clear. According to one Rauf Hamid, who was rescued from the building, many people were still trapped inside. The injured have been shifted to a hospital.
“When the fire broke out, we rushed towards a safe room. The smoke was so intense that we couldn’t understand what was happening,” he said. According to the latest reports, the fire has been controlled and damage assessment has started.
