ANKARA: At least nine persons with suspected links to the ISIS/Daesh terror group were arrested in the Turkish capital city, Ankara, security officials said on Tuesday.

The suspects were arrested during simultaneous operations across Ankara by counterterrorism and intelligence forces, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to a ban on speaking to the media.

The suspects were suspected of being linked with ISIS/Daesh terrorists in conflict zones, and a large number of organizational documents and digital materials were also recovered during the raids, security sources said.

Operations are underway to arrest one more suspect, the security sources said. In 2013, Turkiye became one of the first countries to declare ISIS/Daesh a terrorist organization.

Turkiye has since been attacked by the said terror group multiple times, with more than 300 people killed and hundreds more wounded in at least ten suicide blasts, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults. – AFP
