NIAMEY: Niger’s Presidential Guards on Wednesday sealed off the house and office of President Mohamed Bazoum, a source close to the President said, describing the move as a “fit of anger” by the elite forces and that “dialogues” were underway.

Access was blocked off to President’s official house and offices in the presidential complex in Niamey, although there were no sounds of gunfire in the region, and traffic was normal, local media reports said.
The African nation is one of the most unbalanced countries in the world, experiencing as many as four coups since independence in 1960.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source said it was a fit of anger by the Presidential Guard, but dialogues were underway with the president.
The source further said that President Mohamed Bazoum is safe, including his family who are at the house.
President Bazoum, who was democratically elected in 2021.
