ISLAMABAD/ COPENHAGEN: Writer, director, and producer Nicolas Winding Refn has revealed the inspiration and circumstances that led to the making of “Copenhagen Cowboy’ — a recently released project on Netflix.

In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Refn revealed that “Well, we got stuck in Denmark because of the pandemic. I was working on another thing to shoot in Loss Angeles, and the whole world shut down. And you know, what better place to be but in Denmark?”

Nicolas also said that “We went to the countryside, to my mother’s home, like a good boy. And I just came up with that idea for Copenhagen Cowboy. I haven’t worked in Denmark for a long time, 17-18 years. When I put the crew together, I was like, who’s still around? But many of the people I worked with in the past, on my Danish films, were still working.”

“For Copenhagen Cowboy, I thought it could be fun to create a modern, female superhero or, because serval people believe I’m like the reincarnation of Hans Christian Andersen, there have certain parallels in our lives, and I have wanted to add the fairy tale element to it,” Nicolas continued.

While talking about his working experience with Netflix, the Danish filmmaker said that “It was a very fluid discussion. It’s about all trust. We had the same aim: to make a great, exciting entertainment experience. In my opinion, a committee process doesn’t work very well for creativity.”
