HAMILTON, Canada: New Zealand dismissed South Africa for 242 early on the second day of the second Test in Hamilton today (Wednesday).
Debut seamer Will O’Rourke clinched three of the four remaining wickets to fall on the morning of Day 2 to finish with 4-59 while Ruan de Swardt remained top-scorer with 64.
The last four SA wickets fell for 22 runs in just 8.2 overs after they resumed at 220-6, with O’Rourke claiming three of them.
On his Test debut, the tall left-handed O’Rourke bowled both batsmen overnight, first dismissing fellow debutant Shaun von Berg for 39, in the third match of the day.
It ended with a gritty 77 for the seventh wicket with Ruan de Swardt lifting the inexperienced tourists back into the contest late on the first day.
Dane Piedt departed for four, caught behind New Zealand captain Tim Southee, before O’Rourke bowled de Swardt for 64 and dismissed Dane Paterson for a golden duck to end the innings.
Conway’s slim form continued when he edged the fourth ball of an innings bowled by Dane Paterson weakly.
The Black Caps must win or draw to clinch the two-match series and record their first series victory over South Africa, having lost or drawn the previous 17 dating back to 1931.
