CALIFORNIA: Popular video streaming company, Netflix, has decided to crack down on people sharing account passwords.

Recently, a leading American magazine reported that Netflix will introduce measures to stop account sharing in the United States at the beginning of 2023, which will later be extended worldwide.

Additional fee

In August 2022, Netflix launched a test in five countries in Latin America and those who shared passwords with others were asked to pay a fee for each additional household.

At that time, the company had revealed that if a user’s account is used at different locations outside his residence for more than two weeks, the company will demand an additional fee.

Later, Netflix introduced a feature to transfer profiles between accounts with the same aim.

No official announcement

According to a Wall Street Journal report, the additional fee for a password-sharing account in the United States could be as little as $7. The company has not officially announced the crackdown as it fears many users may leave the service.

According to the company, 100 million people worldwide use the service for free through their friends’ accounts. It should be noted that Netflix has been testing various measures regarding users who share account passwords for a long time.
