NEPRA Conducts Public Hearing on Tariff Issue

ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) conducted a public hearing into the federal government motion on Thursday with respect to recommendations of consumers to end the tariff for K-Electric and XWDISCOs.

The Chairman of NEPRA Tauseef H Farooqi presided over the hearing, while member Sindh Rafique Ahmed Shaikh, member Balochistan Mathar Niaz Rana, member Punjab Amina Ahmed, and member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Maqsood Anwar Khan also participated.

The Power Division was of the view that the surcharge sought in the motion would assist in reducing flow of circular debt. Out of a total of 335 billion rupees, an amount of 126 billion rupees was specified for markup on Pakistan Holding Limited loans.

The officials of the division said that a payment plan for Independent Power Producers has been given to the Finance Division and the payment process would begin shortly.

NEPRA’s decision

NEPRA would announce its ruling after reviewing all statistics. The verdict would also be applicable to all consumers of DISCOs, including K-Electric.
