KARACHI: Pakistan’s National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) benefit requested by K-Electric for April 2024, which will result in a reduction of PKR 1.67 per kWh for consumers’ July 2024 bills.

Previously, NEPRA had set FCA rates of PKR 1.7111 per kWh and PKR 1.3946 per kWh for July 2023 and September 2023 respectively, to be reflected in the upcoming bills.

Fuel Charge Adjustments reflect global fuel price variations impacting electricity generation costs, which utilities pass on to consumers after NEPRA’s review and approval.

Separately, the Federal Investigation Agency’s Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore has launched an inquiry into Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).

The inquiry focuses on allegations that LESCO overcharged millions of protected consumers by billing them for over 200 units of power, leading to a reclassification and additional financial burden on affected consumers.
