KATHMANDU: Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli on Sunday secured the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives.
He received 188 votes, demonstrating a two-thirds majority, in the 275-member parliament. A total of 74 lawmakers voted against him, while a member abstained from the voting process.
A total of 263 lawmakers were present in today’s session. The prime minister required at least 138 votes to win the confidence motion.
“I declare that the motion of the vote of confidence tabled by Prime Minister Oli has been endorsed with a majority,” said Speaker Devraj Ghimire.
Oli was appointed prime minister under Article 76(2) of the Nepali constitution, and the appointed prime minister must take a vote of confidence within 30 days. He was appointed as the prime minister of Nepal by President Ramchandra Paudel on July 15.
Earlier, the prime minister made public the content of the seven-point agreement reached between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML. He added the agreement between the two major parties of Nepal was part of the two largest parties’ efforts to address the country’s issues.
“We [the two parties] compete in our ideologies, but there are instances of collaboration between the Congress and the UML,” said Prime Minister Oli.

Oli said the current government will never tolerate corruption in the country. He said the government will confidently move forward towards good governance.
The prime minister also promised to take appropriate decisions regarding the misappropriation of cooperative funds and will ensure that those responsible for the fraud will be brought to justice.
He said the objective of the incumbent government is to dispel disappointment prevailing among the citizens.
