MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has announced that any talks with the government will take place within the parameters of the constitution and not outside of it.
Speaking to the media after Eidul Fitr prayer, the former foreign minister emphasized the importance of constitutional values in negotiations with the government.
Qureshi also spoke about the improving relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran and the new journey between Saudi Arabia and Turkey. He expressed hope that Allah Almighty will bless the country during this holy month and prayed for the nation.
Regarding the potential visit of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to India, Qureshi said that Bilawal needs to engage with the Hurriyat leadership and not forget the people of occupied Kashmir. He also expressed the expectation that Bilawal will emphasize Pakistan’s prior stance on Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has expressed doubts about the success of talks between the PTI and government.
The two sides are at odds over the holding of elections in the country, and both have assured the Supreme Court (SC) of holding talks to end the deadlock on the election date.
Sheikh Rashid criticizes government
Speaking to the media after Eidul Fitr prayers, Sheikh Rashid said that talks would be fruitless without taking the public onboard and warned of unrest in the country if politicians failed to make headway.
He also criticized the government for engaging in confrontation with the judiciary and said that the top court would rid the country of the corrupt government.
Sheikh Rashid lamented that the masses were suffering from a plethora of problems, including uncertainty surrounding the revival of the IMF loan program. He said that the world has rejected Pakistan and is asking the country to fix its national issues. He also noted that all parties had united to defeat a single person, Imran Khan.
The comments from Qureshi and Sheikh Rashid highlight the ongoing political tensions in Pakistan and the challenges that the government faces in maintaining stability and addressing the concerns of its citizens.
The need for constitutional values and the involvement of the public in negotiations underscore the importance of democratic processes and the rule of law in Pakistan’s political system.
