ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Monday instructed the concerned authorities to ensure mass awareness about the Covid-19 new variant—that threatens the resurgence of the pandemic—and make sure surveillance of travelers to avoid any risk of corona infectiosn.
Lieutenant General Inam Haider, Chairman NDMA, presided over the review session held with the teams of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and National Institute of Health (NIH) on the Covid-19 situation and surveillance at airports in the wake of the new variant BF7 omicron threat.
NIH presented detailed statistics on the corona virus management and vaccination administration in the country.
The meeting was informed that inbound passengers are regularly undergoing Covid-19 testing procedures at all airports while screening tests of pedestrians are also conducted at the Torkham border.
Vigilant against spread of new variant
The CAA informed the forum that an efficient system was fully functional at the airports to remain vigilant against the spread of the new variants, for which relevant logistic measures have also been taken.
Chairman NDMA expressed his confidence in the anti-Covid strategies and preparedness.
However, he issued instructions to NIH officials to circulate precautionary advisories for educational institutions, communities, and social gatherings.
