ISLAMABAD: It is crucial for the concerned authorities to take immediate action to protect the residents in flood-risk areas, said the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

It has already issued directives for the relocation of people in the low-lying areas near Nowshera, as there is a risk of flooding due to the rapid discharge of water at river Kabul.

The NDMA has also predicted heavy rains across the country during the next two days, posing a threat of landslides and flash flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, hill torrents are expected in the Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts of south Punjab and in the hilly areas of Makran and Dera Bugti in Balochistan. Further, there is a risk of flooding in Loralai, Kalat, Naseerabad, Sibi, and Makran, according to state media.

To mitigate potential damages, the NDMA has instructed relevant authorities to issue advance warnings and safety measures to the people living in these regions. These warnings are essential for raising awareness and ensuring that residents are prepared to face imminent threats.

Additionally, in the upper catchment areas of the Indus River, water flow has been recorded slightly higher due to the rains. Although moderate flooding is expected in the Kabul River, the discharge of water in other rivers is reportedly normal for now.

It is essential for residents in the affected areas to stay vigilant, follow safety guidelines issued by authorities, and cooperate with emergency services to ensure their safety and the safety of their communities. Preparedness and timely actions can significantly reduce the impact of natural disasters like floods and safeguard lives and properties.
