ISLAMABAD: In light of the imminent threat posed by heavy rainfall and the potential for devastating landslides and flash flooding, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has sprung into action to issue an alert in this regard.

The Met Office’s forecast of continued rains over the next 48 to 72 hours has spurred the NDMA into issuing urgent directives to all relevant departments to be prepared for any potential calamity.

The NDMA has taken a proactive approach, leaving no stone unturned to mitigate the risks and ensure the public’s safety. It has called upon district administrations to have their machinery on standby and their personnel fully alert, ready to tackle any emergency situation that may arise. The importance of swift action during times of crisis cannot be emphasized enough, and the NDMA’s move to put all departments on high alert reflects the gravity of the situation, according to local media.

According to the latest forecast from the Met Office, regions at high risk of landslides and flash flooding include Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Balochistan, on the other hand, faces the threat of river and canal flooding. The hilly areas of southern Punjab and Balochistan are warned to brace for torrential rains, which can be particularly hazardous in such terrains.
