ISLAMABAD: Managing Director of the National Book Foundation Dr. Raja Mazhar Hameed, on Wednesday opened its book corners to foreign countries to exchange the culture of reading books and to provide an environment to promote reading habits in future generations.
Talking to the state-run news channel, Dr. Raja Mazhar Hameed said that reading books is important for everybody to get new knowledge in the changing world of the technological age.
He said that the aim of NBF is to promote book reading culture in different nations and organize exhibitions at national and international levels.
He lauded the efforts of NBF and the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies in the way of book culture promotion and literary activities in Pakistan.
Promotion of Book-reading Habits
The MD said that besides the government, all segments of society should play an effective role in the promotion of book-reading habits in the country.
In response to a query, he said that the book corners of different nations will help the children to understand the values and cultures of each community, and it would lead to mutual coexistence.
He said that NBF has taken various initiatives to launch a series of innovative projects to promote book-reading culture. It has recently opened an Indonesia book corner, which helps learn about the culture of this country.
He further said that NBF always provides a free-of-cost, conducive, and enriched supportive academic environment to authors either writing for minors, school, and college-going students, or at the university level.
He added that NBF believes in creativity leading to premier quality academic and scholastic resources to masses about fiction, non-fiction, pure sciences, and applied sciences and to disseminate effective professional educational and literary content within the country and across the world.
