LAHORE, Pakistan: In his address to the Parliamentary Board meeting here on Wednesday, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his gratitude for being acquitted from what he described as false accusations.
He reflected on the challenges he encountered, particularly emphasizing that the cases against him were proven baseless in the High Court, with a specific focus on the Panama case.
During his address, Sharif recounted remarks made by the judiciary that likened him to the Sicilian mafia or a godfather. He questioned the appropriateness of such comments and disclosed that, despite expressing the willingness to face the courts in London, a verdict had been prematurely pronounced against him, turning the situation into a global spectacle.
Nawaz Sharif stressed that, despite not seeking revenge, accountability is crucial for those who orchestrated actions against the nation. He emphasized that the repercussions faced by him and his family were, in essence, a form of punishment affecting the entire population of 25 crore people.
Highlighting the personal toll of his legal battles, Sharif discussed the emotional wounds resulting from various restrictions, including the denial of communication with his wife. He brought attention to a Supreme Court judge’s comment suggesting ample space in Adiala Jail, underscoring the need for transparency regarding individuals involved in the alleged conspiracy.
Sharif clarified that his lack of interest in revenge does not diminish the importance of holding accountable those responsible for actions against the nation. He warned that without accountability, the challenges faced by the country would persist, emphasizing the significance of addressing these issues for the greater good.
