BRUSSELS: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday that the alliance will help Ukraine to transform its army into a modern force.

Brussels to Support Ukraine

He told the media in Brussels that NATO will continue to support Ukraine as long as it does. He said that NATO has been providing medical supplies, fuel, generators, winter equipment, and drone jamming devices to Ukraine.

He added that he would ask for more assistance and will assist Ukraine transition from Soviet-era equipment to modern NATO training and standards. He said that the Ukrainian Foreign Minister would also join the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting to discuss his country’s pressing requirements in long term.

Foreign Ministers Meeting to Be Held in Brussels

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the assistance will help Ukraine move towards joining the NATO alliance in the future.  It may be recalled that the meeting will be held on Nov 29-30 in Bucharest.

The meeting is being held for almost fifteen years following the NATO alliance and pledged that Ukraine and Georgia would also one day become members of the alliance.

The Secretary-General said that many wars end with talks but what takes place at the negotiating table depends on what occurs in the field of fighting. He remarked that therefore, the best way to increase the chances for a peaceful solution is to support Ukraine.
