BRUSSELS: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has made a sobering prediction, stating that Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine is unlikely to reach a swift resolution.
In an interview with the German publication Die Welt, Stoltenberg acknowledged the collective desire for peace among all member nations of the military alliance. However, he cautioned that should Ukraine cease its fight, it risks losing its very existence as a nation.
Peaceful Resolution of Ukraine Conflict
Stoltenberg underscored the gravity of the situation, saying, “We must admit that if President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainians stop fighting, their country will no longer exist.” He pointed out that the onus for achieving peace ultimately rests with President Vladimir Putin and Russia, asserting, “If President Vladimir Putin and Russia lay down their arms, we will have peace.”
The NATO Secretary General’s remarks highlight the enduring determination of Ukraine to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity amid Russia’s military aggression. Stoltenberg’s statement also emphasizes the pivotal role of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict and its aspirations to join NATO.
