National Elections: Pakistan Election Body Approves Code of Conduct for International Observers

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan electoral body- Election Commission- has approved to the code of conduct for international observers for covering upcoming national elections and has greenlit its immediate release for publication.

A meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja was convened to review the progress of the upcoming national elections.

During the meeting, it was decided to dispatch a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging them to promptly extend invitations to international observers to assess the transparency of Pakistan’s forthcoming general elections. Additionally, the Election Commission resolved to expeditiously address requests from international observer organizations interested in overseeing the electoral process during the upcoming general elections.

ECP Sets Guidelines for Fair National Elections

The commission also issued instructions for the scheduling of an Inter-Ministerial Meeting on October 16, 2023, which will be presided over by the Secretary of the Election Commission. This meeting will include senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, and other relevant institutions, and will focus on determining the necessary actions regarding international observers.

The Election Commission has requested details of focal persons from various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, and other relevant institutions. Additionally, Joint Provincial Election Commissioner Admin has been appointed as Focal Persons in the four provinces.

During the meeting, preparations for the upcoming general elections were thoroughly examined, and it was emphasized that adhering to the established schedule for all election-related matters is of utmost importance. The meeting expressed satisfaction with the election arrangements and issued directives to ensure that all election-related tasks align with the predetermined schedule.
