National Assembly Speaker and CJP
Raja Pervez Ashraf said that he realizes the concerns of the people of the country, and believes that the apex court should be made aware of the sentiments of the members of the National Assembly. The speaker said that he would be writing the letter to the CJP himself, and would try to do so as soon as possible.
The speaker’s announcement comes at a very crucial time, as the SC was set to hear the Punjab provincial assembly election case on Thursday, and the federal government has not yet decided about the release of funds for the elections.
Earlier, the Federal Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved referring of the Finance Ministry’s summary to the Parliament for provision of 21 billion rupees to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
