ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) on Monday passed a resolution to establish a committee responsible for filing a reference against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
The motion was presented during a session that deviated from the routine business of the house. The passionate gathering in the lower house of Parliament witnessed a majority of members advocating for the assertion of parliamentary powers.
Earlier in the day, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif addressed the house, emphasizing the Parliament’s duty to defend its territory by sending a strong message. He expressed concern over a section of the judiciary granting unprecedented concessions to PTI Chairman Imran Khan in corruption cases.

Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz strongly condemned recent acts of violence in the country. He denounced those who attacked the Corps Commander House in Lahore and defiled monuments dedicated to martyrs, labeling them as enemies of the state.
Riaz attributed these despicable acts to trained elements within the ‘PTI’ and emphasized the need for complete solidarity with Pakistan’s armed forces.
Salahuddin of the MQM (Muttahida Qaumi Movement) denounced the recent violent incidents as intolerable. He claimed that the judiciary was granting concessions to PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who allegedly orchestrated the vandalism of public and private properties.
The formation of a committee to file a reference against the Chief Justice of Pakistan signifies a significant development in the ongoing political landscape of the country.
As the National Assembly takes assertive steps to exercise its powers, the political atmosphere is expected to become increasingly charged, with implications for the judiciary and the overall governance of Pakistan.
