Nation-wide Anti-polio Campaign Starts Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to start the country-wide anti-polio campaign from tomorrow (Monday).

According to the details, the federal government has completed consultations with the provinces regarding the anti-polio campaign. The campaign will comprise two phases. The first phase will start between January 16 to January 20, while the second phase will be carried out from January 23 to 29, said the officials.

The anti-polio drive will be run in the four provinces besides in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Two days have been allocated for the anti-polio campaign while further two days have been marked for catch-up campaigns across the country.

Anti-polio campaign to target 40m children

According to the sources, over 40 million children will be vaccinated in the nation-wide campaign. Children in the age group of 6 to 59 months will be vaccinated with Vitamin A which is helpful in improving immunity.

Sources said that the target for the anti-polio vaccination includes 20.42 million children in Punjab, 9.35 million children in Sindh and 6.9 million children in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly, in Azad Kashmir 0.25 million children, in Gilgit-Baltistan 0.35 million children and in Balochistan, 2.53 million children will be vaccinated against the disease. As many as 335,387 front-line workers will take part in the campaign.
