DUBAI: Gerhard Erasmus, the talented all-rounder, assumes the role of captain as Namibia unveil its squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Under Erasmus’s leadership, a seasoned team, which secured its berth in the ninth edition of the tournament with an undefeated streak at last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier on home turf, prepare to compete. JJ Smit takes up the position of vice-captain alongside Erasmus. Retaining the core of the squad that excelled during the qualifiers, twelve out of the fifteen players return for this campaign.
Notable absentees include the dynamic all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton, seasoned campaigner Pikky Ya France, and promising young batter Shawn Fouche. Despite Loftie-Eaton’s recent feat of scoring the fastest T20I century in men’s cricket history against Nepal, he misses out on selection for the June tournament co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.
The squad sees the inclusion of inexperienced talents such as seamer Dylan Leicher, left-arm quick Ruben Trumpelmann, and teenage sensation Jack Brassell, who showcased their potential in the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year.
Namibia squad: Gerhard Erasmus (c), Michael Van Lingen, Zane Green, Ruben Trumpelmann, Jack Brassell, Ben Shikongo, Dylan Leicher, Niko Davin, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, JP Kotze, David Wiese, Bernard Scholtz, Malan Kruger, PD Blignaut, Tangeni Lungameni.
