ISLAMABAD: Naila Kiani on Thursday set a new standard for Pakistani women in climbing when she successfully summited Broad Peak (8,047 meters), the world’s 12th-highest.
“Naila has successfully climbed Pakistan’s fifth and final 8,000-meter peak at 2:03 AM today (Thursday),” Alpine Club of Pakistan Secretary Karrar Haidri announced in a statement.
He added, “She is also the first Pakistani woman to climb Broad Peak, all five of Pakistan’s 8,000-meter peaks, and eight 8,000-meter peaks globally.”
Haider said, “She has climbed several mountains, including the iconic Everest, the challenging K2, the towering Lhotse, the treacherous Annapurna, the elusive G1 and the G2, and the gorgeous Nanga Parbat. Naila’s unyielding resolve, exceptional skills, and unwavering attitude inspire a lot of mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts worldwide.
