LAHORE: The authorities have appointed former Pakistani international cricketer, Nahida Khan as the manager of Pakistan’s women’s team for the upcoming South Africa women’s series set to commence in Karachi from September 1.

Nahida has been appointed for the South Africa series only, while Ayesha Ashhar will return as the team manager for Asian Games.

Nahida Khan, a seasoned athlete with an illustrious cricketing career, has been appointed as the manager exclusively for the South Africa series. This strategic move comes as a part of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) concerted efforts to infuse fresh leadership and inspiration into the team’s journey.

The 36-year-old Nahida Khan, renowned for her contributions in 120 international matches for Pakistan, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. With an impressive record of scoring 2,014 runs and clinching one wicket during her time as a player, Nahida retired from international cricket in June of this year. Her transition to a managerial role is a testament to her continued commitment to the growth and success of women’s cricket.

Nahida Khan’s foray into coaching is also noteworthy. She embarked on a brief coaching stint as the assistant coach for the Blasters in the Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament held in Karachi from May 19 to June 4. Prior to this, she stepped into the shoes of head coach Taufiq Umar for the Amazons side, triumphing with a 2-1 victory against the Super Women in the Women’s League exhibition matches in March.

Joining Nahida Khan in the management team is Kamran Hussain, another former international cricketer, who takes on the role of the team’s new bowling coach, succeeding Saleem Jaffar. This strategic addition is expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the team’s training and performance.

Mauhtashim Rashid, a familiar name in the women’s cricket fraternity, has been appointed as the interim head coach for the national side during the South Africa series and the upcoming Asian Games. This decision follows the resignation of Mark Coles from the head coach position. The dynamic cricketing mind of Rashid, who has previously worked as the head coach of the women’s team, is set to guide the team towards their next challenges.

The revamped team management is poised to create an environment of growth, development, and strategic evolution for the Pakistan women’s cricket team. With Nahida Khan at the helm, supported by a lineup of accomplished professionals including Kamran Hussain, Mauhtashim Rashid, Taufiq Umar, Muhammad Asfand Yar, Zubair Ahmed, Rifat Asghar Gill, and Syed Nazir Ahmed, the team’s prospects look promising as they gear up for the intense battles ahead.
