BARCELONA: Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has said that he will finish his career in 2024 while accepting that he had two operations to fix his hip injury, Western media reported on Monday.

“I said that possibly 2024 was my last year, I maintain that, but I cannot confirm it 100 percent because I do not know,” Nadal told the media.

The 37-year-old star in May announced that his hip injury during the Australian Open in January had been keeping him away from the game and that he was trying to make a comeback.

Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam winner, has reiterated that he would be competitive again.

He added he was not hoping to win Roland Garros or win (in) Australia because all that is a long way off.

The tennis star said he was well aware of his fitness issues and growing age. He said that he just wanted to play to be competitive again.

Nadal has undergone two surgeries on his hip, one of which he declared publicly in June was set to take about five months to heal.
