NAB, Health Department to Review Procurement Procedures in KP

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Department of Health are set to conduct a comprehensive review of health-related procurement procedures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On September 27, higher authorities, including the Secretary Health, Secretary Finance, Secretary Establishment, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Care Commission, and Director-General of Health, have been summoned to NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a briefing.

The briefing will focus on various aspects of procurement procedures across the province, including those related to health workers, medicines, and other healthcare items.

Specific areas to be discussed during the briefing include the local procurement process, the role of the Medical Store Corporation (MCC), the technical evaluation of procured items, and the function of drug testing laboratories.

Additionally, the discussion will cover the storage of procured items, the formation of a physical inspection committee for pharmaceuticals, and the baseline for hospitals’ requirements.

Rules pertaining to monopoly items, the disposal of expired items, and measures taken for the computerized record-keeping of dispensed and stored drugs will also be reviewed.

The competence of staff responsible for electro-medical equipment and methods for monitoring this equipment will be addressed during the briefing. The session will also explore strategies for increasing income in pharmacies and enhancing pathology services in hospitals.

This joint effort between NAB and the Department of Health aims to ensure transparency, efficiency, and compliance with procurement procedures in the healthcare sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
