ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON DC: The winners of several non-televised categories will be announced via streaming presentations throughout the week leading up to the 2023 NAACP Image Awards live ceremony.
The NAACP presented a number of awards in the outstanding recording categories in one night, which was hosted by actor Khleo Thomas. Crystal Renee Hayslett, Echo Kellum, and Jotaka Eaddy were among those who spoke.
NAACP awards of Beyoncé
Beyoncé won the most awards on Monday night, including outstanding female artist, outstanding soul/R&B song for “Cuff It,” and outstanding album for Renaissance. Chris Brown took home two awards for best male artist and best duo, group, or collaboration (contemporary) with Wizkid for “Call Me Every Day” from his album Breezy.
Rihanna also won the best music video/visual album award for her song “Lift Me Up,” which appeared in the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Silk Sonic won for best duo, group, or collaboration (Traditional) for “Love’s Train,” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won for best soundtrack/compilation album, Quavo, and Takeoff won for best hip hop/rap song for “Hotel Lobby,” and Erica Campbell won for best gospel/Christian song for “Positive.”
With five nominations each, Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar tied for the most in the music recording categories. With 11 nominations, RCA Records/RCA Inspiration received the most nominations of any record label.
The NAACP will continue to recognize non-televised category winners virtually at 5 p.m. PT through Thursday, as well as at an awards dinner and program on Friday.
The 54th NAACP Image Awards will air live on BET from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The NAACP Image Awards honor the accomplishments and performances of people of color in over 80 categories.
