ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday constituted a special committee to investigate the audio of Najam Saqib, son of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar, who can be heard selling a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket to a candidate of the Punjab Assembly.
A notification issued in this regard stated that Mohammad Aslam Bhootani has been appointed as committee chairman, that includes Shahida Akhtar Ali, Sheikh Rohale Asghar, , Muhammad Abubakar, Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Syed Hussain Tariq, Khalid Hussain Magsi and Naz Baloch.
The committee may take the assistance of any investigating agency and would submit its report before the House, the notification stated. Last week, leaked audio purportedly featured two separate telephonic conversations between former CJ’s son and Abuzar Chadhar — a PTI candidate from PP-137 — and Mian Uzair, a middleman between the two.
The three could be heard allegedly talking about the ticket for provincial assembly election, recently issued by the PTI. In the audio, Najam Saqib can be heard asking Uzair for Rs12m for the party ticket.
In one of the leaked audios, Najam allegedly asked PTI’s Abuzar Chadhar to pay a visit to his father and thank him for the favour, while in the other, he argues with Mian Uzair over money. On April 29, the former Chief Justice in a television statement confirmed that the voice in the audio call was of his son, Najam Saqib. A day after the leak, the PTI had also launched an inquiry into the matter.
