ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani on Sunday emphasized facilitating dialogue on the climate crisis among the global parliamentary community.
He said it would help identify inter-parliamentary solutions for a more sustainable world.
Durrani said Pakistan needs international community support to tackle devastating climate change impacts.
The deputy speaker along with noted parliamentarians from Pakistan attended the parliamentary meeting held on the occasion of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27). The meeting, jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Egyptian House of Representatives, took place on 13 November 2022 in Sharm-El Sheikh, Egypt.
On this occasion, Pakistani delegates touched upon key climate issues, including emissions reductions, scaling-up adaptation efforts and mobilizing climate finance for developing countries on the front lines of climate change.
They drew the attention of the world parliamentary leaders to the fact that the recent devastating floods had caused severe damage to the lives and properties of millions of people in Pakistan.
They also stressed the need to enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation to address the challenges of global climate change.
The parliamentary delegation comprises legislators Syed Mehmood Shah, Nuzhat Pathan, Zeb Jaffar and Parliamentary Secretary on Climate Change Naz Baloch. APP
