NAYPYIDAW: Myanmar’s top court has refused to hear special appeals from the country’s deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi against her convictions in several corruption related cases where she was found guilty of abusing her power and taking bribes, official said on Friday.

Myanmar: SC Declines to Hear Suu Kyi’s Appeals

Independent analysts and her supporters say the allegations, all of which have been contested by Suu Kyi and her attorneys, are false and a try to dishonor her and legitimize the army’s seizure of authority in the country.

Aung San Suu Kyi initially received sentences of 33 years but Senior General. Min Aung Hlaing, the chief of the military regime, granted her leniency in five cases and decreased her sentence by 6-year as part of a broader amnesty for over 7,00 0 prisoners to mark a religious holiday in August.

The legal official said the appeals that the Supreme Court in Naypyitaw refused to hear included four cases in which Aung San Suu Kyi was convicted for abusing her power.

Appeals of Suu Kyi’s convictions on the allegations including polls fraud, breaking the official secrets acts and six other cases are still being processed, some legal officials said.
