MIRPUR: Muzaffarabad is facing a severe water crisis as 26 out of 27 water springs in the city are declared unsafe by the AJK Food Authorities.
As per the official notification issued by AJK State Food Authorities, the water samples of all the springs were tested by the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources and were found to be contaminated. The only spring that passed the examination was located at Mehraz Tanoliyaan.
Ch. Muhammad Raqeeb, Secretary Food of AJK, said that State Food authorities were also collecting the water samples from all the filtration plants in the Mirpur district to test their hygienic standard.
He said that a research report about the quality of the water filtration plants in the area would be issued once their water samples were examined by the stipulated research authority.
Drinking Water Supply Pipelines Near Sewerage Lines
A recent survey found that several drinking water supply pipelines were passing very close to the sewerage lines, causing the supply of unhygienic water to the consumers.
The survey also revealed that some of the water supply lines laid at the time of the emergence of New Mirpur had rusted and lost their stipulated age limit, resulting in further deterioration of the water quality.
The consumers in Mirpur district are forced to use unhygienic water for drinking and other purposes.
