ISLAMABAD: Elon Musk has said that he will resign as head of Twitter as soon as he finds someone “foolish enough to take the job.”
The multibillionaire said that his job will be limited to running the software and servers teams after a replacement is found.
Twitter users overwhelmingly – 57.5 percent of the participants – voted to oust Musk after he ran a poll asking whether he should step down as head of the social media platform and promised to abide by its results.
Twitter under Musk
Changes on Twitter following Musk’s takeover of the social media platform have received wide criticism. Since buying the company in October, the multibillionaire has fired about half of its staff and made a number of other bold changes such as launching the paid-for verification service.
Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has been criticized by civil liberties groups who have accused him of taking steps that will promote hate speech and misinformation. The United Nations and European Union on Friday also condemned Twitter for suspending some journalists who cover the social media firm.
Musk has said that finding someone to replace him as head of the social media platform may be a challenge, with speculations that Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey might become the new CEO of the company.
