Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi Remembered on His 100th Birth Anniversary

KARACHI: Famous Urdu literary icon and satirist Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi was remembered on his 100th birth anniversary on Monday.

Yousufi was born on Sept 4, 1923 in Jaipur, India and later came to Pakistan after independence.

He was banker by profession and held top positions in different banks across the country.

His writings, including essays, humour and satire have always entertained and inspired Urdu readers.

Yousufi’s writings offer glimpses of cultural, political and social aspects of society with beautiful recollections of the past.

‘Chiragh Talay’, ‘Khakam-Badahan’, ‘Zarguzasht’, ‘Aab-i-Gum’, and ‘Sham-e-Sheri-Yaran’ are his notable works.

The government of Pakistan had awarded him with Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1999 and Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2002 for his extraordinary contribution to literature.

Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi passed away on June 20, 2018 in Karachi after a prolonged illness.
