ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Mullick, Pakistan’s Caretaker Human Rights Minister, Monday urged the international community to hold India accountable for violation of human rights in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

While speaking to a news programme, she stated, “Kashmiris must be given the freedom to choose their fate like all other nations.” She added that the time is quickly approaching when India will fall victim to its own agenda and aggressive practices. India must respect democracy, the UN resolution, and popular will.

She declared that “the civilized world and the permanent members of the UNSC must play a role to ensure the smooth execution of the UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue.” She said that according to the UN charter, Kashmiris have been fighting for decades for their right to self-determination. According to the minister, this fight will continue until and unless Kashmiris are granted the right to a referendum.

She claimed that the significance of the Kashmir conflict in the area and Indian crimes against innocent Kashmiris were well known to the international community. “Unfortunately, the international community is unwilling to pressure India to stop the siege in the occupied valley. There is house arrest for the entire Hurriyet leadership,” she said.

“The world must act decisively to stop India’s human rights abuse in the valley. The Kashmiris will eventually be granted their fundamental right to self-determination,” she noted.

She responded to a question by saying, “Pakistan will continue to support the Kashmir cause at all international forums and will remain firm in its stance on Kashmir.” —APP
