ISLAMABAD: Oman said Thursday it will host a sixth round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran.

“I am pleased to confirm the 6th round of Iran-US talks will be held in Muscat this Sunday,” AFP cited Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi as saying.

Rounds of talks

Tehran and Washington have held five rounds of talks since April to thrash out a new nuclear deal to replace the 2015 accord that Trump abandoned during his first term in 2018.

The announcement by Oman came just hours after President Donald Trump said US personnel were being moved from the potentially “dangerous” Middle East.

Iran for days had been saying there would be talks, but Oman, which is serving as the mediator, had not confirmed them until now, AP reported.

There was no immediate comment from the US, according to AP.

Oslo Forum

Earlier, Iran’s foreign ministry said that the new round of nuclear talks with the United States was being planned for Sunday.

“The next round of Iran-US indirect talks is being planned for next Sunday in Muscat,” AFP cited Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei as saying. The spokesperson further said that Foreign Minister and chief negotiator Abbas Araghchi would this week attend the Norway’s Oslo Forum.
